Police in Thrissur, Kerala, stated on Thursday that a woman was abducted and raped by a gang of six, while her boyfriend was beaten and seriously injured. The gang was allegedly hired by the man’s wife.
Police in Thrissur, Kerala, said on Thursday that a woman was abducted and raped, and her boyfriend was severely beaten by a six-member gang allegedly hired by the man’s wife.
Police stated that five individuals, including the man’s wife, have been arrested by the Thrissur police for their alleged involvement in the case. The man, his wife, and the other accused all reside in Tamil Nadu, while the rape victim is from Nilambur, Kerala.
“The incident occurred on September 22, when the couple checked into a lodge near the Thrissur Inter-State Bus Stand. Six men posing as police officers barged into the room and abducted them,” Thrissur City Police Commissioner Nakul Rajendra Deshmukh told the Hindustan Times.
According to the police, the couple was taken to Tiruppur in Tamil Nadu, where the man was brutally beaten and subsequently abandoned outside a hospital. He reportedly sustained multiple fractures to his hands and legs.
According to Thrissur police, the woman was transferred to another vehicle, where she was allegedly raped before being abandoned.
A senior police officer stated that the plot to kidnap and assault the couple was orchestrated by the man’s wife, who had tracked her husband’s mobile phone location to a hotel in Thrissur.
“The man’s wife was among the group that kidnapped him and his girlfriend. Although the rape and assault took place in Tiruppur, we will investigate the case because the abduction occurred here,” the officer said.
Five of the accused have been produced before a magistrate and remanded in custody, while the sixth suspect—believed to be a minor—has not yet been apprehended.
The identities of the defendants have been confirmed as Devi, Thomas, Shankar, Palraj, and Raghupati. They are charged with multiple offenses, including gang rape, kidnapping, and aggravated assault.
